“We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother”
Today as we honor the brave men and women who are and have served this country I would like to make you aware of an organization that helps returning injured Veterans with a place to call there own. The group called “Homes For Our Troops” ”build specially adapted homes for our severely injured veterans at no cost to the veterans we serve”. Yesterday in Hillsdale, NJ the project for Corporal Visnu Gonzalez came to and end and he was given the keys to his new home.
Today many more of our service people are returning from abroad with catastrophic injuries and need our help. As a realtor helping people in the Montclair and surrounding areas with their housing needs I can think of no better way to honor these men and women than to help out an organization such as this. Over on Harvard Street there is a piece of land that could be perfect for one of these projects. While the subdivision of the property is controversial there is probably no better way to quell the grumblings than to donate the land to this worthy cause. You can learn more about “Homes For Our Troops” at their website and see the projects here in NJ. If you are interested in starting a project or know of a veteran please let us know.

Tomorrow night our little ones, as well as many others, will be heading out in their oh so adorable costumes. It is worth remembering some saftey precautions as your children are preparing to go trick-or-treating.
It is imperative that your children can see and be seen. If necessary expand the eye holes of the mask to improve peripheral vision. Also adding reflective tape to the costume will make your child more visible to motorist
Your childs costume should be flame retardant and while most are made of this material your should double check the label. If you are making the costume yourself ensure the fabric is flame retardant as well.
Remind the child to remove their mask and look both ways before crossing the street.
All of your little trick-or-treater should have a flashlight. Change the batteries before they head out.
Adults should accompany any group of children out trick-or-treating. This should go without saying.
No eating candy until you return home. (Unless its a 100 Grand Bar, then give it to Dad to “hold”)
You should only trick-or-treat at homes of people you already know.
After arriving home, inspect all the candies, etc. Dispose of any treat that is unwrapped or appears to have been tampered with.
Hopefully these tips should go without saying but we want everyone to have a happy and safe Halloween. Send us some of your best Halloween pictures and we will feature them here. Wishing everyone a happy and safe Halloween.
