This morning a real life version of the popular video game played itself out on Wilbur Terrace in Bloomfield. With the cold weather gripping the area, many of us run out to warm up the car and then run back into to collect our various Sundries that are required for the day. This morning around 7 a.m. the wife of an associate ran out and started the car and ran back into the house for about 60 seconds to grab a bag. While standing at the door, a utility truck pulled up and a women casually got out of passenger side and walked up to the running car in the driveway. She got in locked the car and drove away while the victim banged on the window. My associate reports that apparently there was also a car stolen on Hyde Road this morning as well. This was certainly a crime of opportunity where the thieves knew that folks would go out start the car and run back inside.
While stolen cars are nothing new here in Essex County, these incidences should serve as an important reminder that you should never leave your running car unattended while you zip back into the house or into the store for your morning coffee. Be Safe!
