Montclair rates very high when it come to walkable cities just check out Walkscore but for the second third time in a week a pedestrian was struck in Upper Montclair, NJ. The first incident occured on December 11 when 2 women were struck by a motorist at 7:30 p.m. Both were take to St. Joesph’s in Paterson where one woman died. As I arrived in the our office at 242 Bellevue Avenue a male pedestrian was struck by a BMW in the crosswalk of Valley Road and Bellevue Avenue. He has been taken away by ambulance and the Mobile Crime Scene Unit has just arrived.

We should all heed the words of Laura Torchio who posted this to the Bike Montclair Yahoo Group on Saturday.
…please slow down. As I spend my morning catching up on email/news/etc. , I just learned of a very disturbing crash in Montclair this week. It was a fatal pedestrain crash on Valley by Mt. Hebron When you’re driving, think like a bicyclist or a pedestrain, and proceed accordingly. Expect them. They’re there. Scan beyond the curbline, stop at stop lines (don’t roll through xwalks), put down your cell phone. You know what to do. Just do it. No one WANTS to hit anyone. My guess is that those of you receiving this already walk the talk. But we can all use a little reminder every now and then. Please be careful.
Let’s send out our prayer that this gentleman will be OK and for everyones sake PLEASE SLOW DOWN.
(As I was writing this post the Baristas are reporting on another pedestian accident last night at Park & Gordonhurst)
